Color for Tessa

April's 5k was a Color Run/Fundraiser for a guy in our ward's sister, Tessa. She has cancer and is trying to raise money for a bone marrow transplant. John actually ran with me this time which was great! It was really sweet of him considering he'd only ran like twice before the race and wasn't so sure how he'd feel, but he was tougher than I was, which is actually kinda annoying and impressive at the same time since I run most days of the week.
Anyway, even though it was my 6th race it was actually really hard for me. We ran at a really consistent pace once we actually got started running. We started in the very back of a 500 plus person pack and the first 1/2 mile was pretty narrow so we ended up walking the first part since we couldn't pass anyone. Also, the first part was in the mud which was rough. There were little up and downs on the trail and you had to do 2 laps of the same thing which is not my ideal. When we got to the finish and saw our time I was pretty discouraged at first, but then we talked about all of those factors I just mentioned and decided to count this run as just fun and not one to worry about time. The thing that made it a "color" run is that volunteers would throw dyed cornstarch on you while your were running and then at the end it was just a color free for all and everyone was throwing it at everyone. It was fun and we felt good about it over all. Plus it really was just cool to be able to run with my hubby. He must love me to be willing to do this with me. :)

Before the race. So fresh and clean.

After the race sweaty and colorful

While we were running John's mom watched the kids so right after the race we went back to get them so they could see all the baby animals at the center and eat lunch. The kids really enjoyed it and it was funny to see their reactions to the animals.

Season was mostly fascinated but a little afraid of the animals and Cache just wanted to pull all their tails.

We also went on a little train ride which the kids loved.

This was such a fun day and it made me excited for the next run John and I will do in May.
